MELL VF

Dutch trio blending rhythm & blues, soul and retro-tinged pop, Mell VF brings together singer and guitarist Mell Jonk, drummer and guitarist Ton Dijkman, and keyboardist Martin Scheppink, who alternates between Hammond organ, piano and bass. Initially known as Mell & Vintage Future and later shortened to Mell VF, the band emerged in 2016 with a series of singles that received regular airplay on national radio, before releasing a debut album in 2019 that positioned their sound between organic groove and pop songwriting. In 2021 they released Roots & Romance, a covers album conceived during the Covid period; their rendition of Lou Reed’s "Perfect Day" was selected in 2022 for the soundtrack of the Paramount Pictures film The In Between. A second album of original compositions followed in 2022, opening a new phase marked by the singles "Love Train", "Worth It", "Shine Your Light" and "Frozen in Time". In 2023 the trio’s appearances on the television shows Beste Zangers and Vandaag Inside boosted their visibility; on stage they cultivate a sound inspired as much by Booker T. & The MG’s and Sly & The Family Stone as by a vocal soul approach reminiscent of Adele or Janis Joplin.
