Born in Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, Sophie Leigh McBurnie, aka piri, has established herself from 2021 with a light and fast electronic pop that blends drum and bass, UK garage, breakbeats and highly melodic refrains. Initially launched under her own name with "It’s a Match" in 2021, piri later develops the project piri & Tommy with Tommy Villiers, whom she met in Manchester, a duo whose writing turns short pop formats into club tracks that are flexible, playful and deeply rooted in online practices. The track "Soft Spot" circulates their music far beyond the local scene, followed by the singles "Beachin", "Words" and "On & On", before the Froge.mp3 mixtape in 2022. After the duo's personal and artistic separation, piri pursues a more autonomous trajectory, while remaining tied to British pop and dance scenes. As a member of the Loud LDN collective, she has also multiplied collaborations, notably with MJ Cole, salute, Sudley, Maisi or Young Franco, and participated in writing "Magnetic" for Illit in 2024. Piri's music rests on a soft, not overly demonstrative voice, bright pop textures and rhythms inherited from the British rave culture, in a direct format that navigates between intimate song, internet aesthetics and the energy of the dancefloor.
