Rita Payés

Born in Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia, Rita Payés developed at a very young age a musical language where jazz, bossa nova, bolero and Latin American songs intersect, with a flexible approach to the trombone and a voice with intimate phrasing. Trained in a family of musicians and then graduating in jazz trombone at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, Rita Payés drew early notice as a teenager in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band directed by Joan Chamorro, a major seedbed of the Barcelona scene. Her first recordings appeared in this context with Joan Chamorro presenta Rita Payés in 2015 and Lua amarela in 2016. Rita Payés then refined a more personal repertoire, often linked to her mother, guitarist Elisabeth Roma, with whom she signed Imagina in 2019 and then Como la piel in 2021, two records that establish an acoustic, light and melodic aesthetic, between revisited standards, Brazilian influences and original compositions. In the same year, 2019, she also recorded My Ideal and In New York with Italian pianist Massimo Faraò. Active on jazz and contemporary music stages across Europe, Rita Payés further widened her audience with her participation in Te venero alongside C. Tangana in 2022. Her album De camino al camino appears in 2024.
