El Kanka
Under the name El Kanka, singer and guitarist Juan Gómez Canca has been developing a repertoire since the early 2010s rooted between Málaga, his hometown, and the Madrid scene. Situated within the Spanish singer-songwriter (cantautores) tradition, El Kanka blends acoustic song, rumba, touches of flamenco, Latin pop and Latin American influences, with a writing style that favors everyday narratives, gentle irony and a conversational tone. After a first EP, “Más triste es robar” (2011), he released “Lo mal que estoy y lo poco que me quejo” in 2013, followed by “El día de suerte de Juan Gómez” (2014) and “De pana y rubí” (2015), albums that gradually placed him on the circuit of mid-sized venues, from café-concerts to song festivals in Spain and Latin America. With “El arte de saltar” (2018) and “Cosas de los vivientes” (2023), El Kanka consolidated a tight band format centered on guitar and light percussion, favoring spare arrangements, accessible rhythms and a direct rapport with the audience, between understated humour, social observation and intimate ballads.
