SOPHIA

Born in 1995 in Wetter, North Rhine–Westphalia, Sophia Bauckloh, who performs as SOPHIA, developed an early passion for singing and, from the early 2010s, took vocal technique classes at her hometown music school. While attending the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium, she drew attention in 2012 by appearing on the ninth season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar, where she reached the foreign recall round. After completing her Abitur in 2013, she first trained as a goldsmith before gradually returning to music, sharing her own compositions on TikTok and Instagram from 2021 onward. These tracks led SOPHIA to collaborate with the producer duo Achtabahn, resulting in the release of her first official song, Niemals allein, in 2021—German pop with the voice front and center, direct melodies, and personal lyrics. This was followed by, among others, Wenn du die Augen schließt in 2022 and singles such as Schmetterling and Wenn Kometen fallen, which positioned SOPHIA in a contemporary pop space blending ballads and midtempo songs. Her debut album, Niemals allein, appeared in 2023 on Vertigo Records, followed in 2024 by Wenn es sich gut anfühlt on the same label, where SOPHIA refines songwriting focused on relationships, doubt, and self-assertion. Alongside her studio work, SOPHIA performs on major stages—she sang the German national anthem at the first NFL regular-season game in Germany—and lent her voice to the German version of the song Ich wage den Schritt for the film Vaiana 2, confirming her standing in today’s German-language pop landscape.
