Dreamville

Born in 2007 around J. Cole and his manager Ibrahim Hamad, Dreamville took shape between New York, Los Angeles and North Carolina as an entity dedicated to hip-hop and R&B, functioning both as a label and a collective. Dreamville initially grew as a working framework for J. Cole and his close collaborators, before broadening its identity with the arrival of artists such as Bas, Cozz, Omen, Lute, JID and the duo EarthGang, each contributing distinct writing styles and textures—from introspective rap to more melodic, soul-inflected or experimental forms. Dreamville’s trajectory was confirmed by the collective projects Revenge of the Dreamers in 2014, Revenge of the Dreamers II in 2015 and Revenge of the Dreamers III in 2019, recorded through communal sessions and ongoing exchange among the collective’s rappers, singers and producers. This method, more open than a standard label model, is also evident on D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape (2022) and Creed III: The Soundtrack (2023). Dreamville thus occupies a place in the American rap scene where group cohesion, intergenerational exchange and ties to Atlanta, Raleigh or New York matter as much as individual careers.
