Grupo Frontera

Originating from the Rio Grande Valley between Edinburg, Texas, and northern Mexico, Grupo Frontera is part of the recent wave of música mexicana, blending cumbia, norteño, and romantic balladry. Founded in 2019, the group emerged from a circle of musician friends who first played local parties before posting covers on social media, where a 2022 version of “No se va” drew a much wider audience on both sides of the border. They have since built a repertoire that combines original compositions with reimaginings of pop and Latin songs, centered on accordion and guitars with cumbia rhythms adapted to a contemporary pop format. Collaborations with Fuerza Regida, Yahritza y Su Esencia, Peso Pluma, and Bad Bunny—most notably on the 2023 track “Un x100to”—have cemented the band within an increasingly international regional Mexican landscape. Their debut album, “El Comienzo” (2023), distills this approach—dance music, romance, and direct melodies—while keeping a clear anchor in the South Texas norteño tradition.
