Pretty Sick
Pretty Sick, led by bassist and singer Sabrina Fuentes, formed in New York in the mid‑2010s within Manhattan’s independent rock scene, before splitting its time between the United States and London. Rooted in alternative rock with strands of grunge, noise rock and post‑punk, the band developed a sound built on saturated guitars, a dense rhythm section and often introspective, melodic vocals. After several singles circulated in New York’s DIY circuit, Pretty Sick released its first EP, “DEAR ULTRAVIOLET,” in 2020, followed by “Come Down” in 2021; these recordings positioned the group between abrasive energy and slower, heavier compositions. The debut album “Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile” (2022) refined this aesthetic by playing with contrasts of electric tension, foregrounded bass lines and personal lyrics, while “Streetwise” (2023) extended the approach with a firmer grounding in direct guitar rock. Around Sabrina Fuentes, Pretty Sick operates with a variable lineup, remains active on small stages and in clubs, and belongs to a generation of indie‑rock bands reconnecting with a grunge sensibility without abandoning the contemporary codes of alternative pop.
