Lowertown
Based in Atlanta, the duo Lowertown brings together singer‑songwriter Olivia Osby and multi‑instrumentalist Avsha Weinberg, who were shaped by the same high‑school environment before they began releasing home‑recorded tracks in the late 2010s. Initially rooted in bedroom pop and lo‑fi, Lowertown gradually shifted toward a more abrasive indie rock where distorted guitars, post‑punk‑adjacent rhythms and minimalist acoustic passages coexist. Signed to the British label Dirty Hit, the band consolidated this turn with the 2021 EP The Gaping Mouth, which highlights compositions with shifting atmospheres — between spoken fragments, suspended melodies and noisier climaxes. The 2022 album I Love to Lie extends this duo‑centered songwriting: Olivia Osby delivers often introspective lyrics about anxiety, relationships and urban life, while Avsha Weinberg shapes contrasts between rough sonic textures and clearer melodic motifs. On stage, Lowertown most often performs with an expanded band, giving their songs a more immediate, frontal impact than the studio recordings while retaining the rough, intimate aesthetic that defines the Lowertown project.
