Il Est Vilaine

Active on Paris’s electronic scene since the early 2010s, Il Est Vilaine has developed a project that sits midway between club music and rock references. The French duo works in a dark disco and slow techno vein, infused with post‑punk, cold wave and imaginary soundtracks, with particular attention to narrative atmospheres and shadowy textures. In the studio, Il Est Vilaine alternates between dancefloor‑ready cuts and more song‑oriented tracks, regularly bringing in guest vocals that steer the project toward a strain of deviant pop. On stage, the group navigates between electronic live sets and DJ sets, staying close to independent clubs and festivals in France and across Europe. Through a run of maxi singles and EPs released on specialized labels, Il Est Vilaine has consolidated a distinctive sonic identity built on restrained tempos, repetitive basslines and a marked taste for hypnotic builds, while maintaining a strong bond with the Parisian nightlife culture from which it emerged.
