The Brook & The Bluff
Born on Birmingham, Alabama’s independent scene, The Brook & The Bluff first took shape around the duo of Joseph Settine and Alec Bolton before expanding into a quartet with John Canada and Fred Lankford, eventually relocating to Nashville. The project sits between indie pop, folk-rock, and a light strain of soul, driven by pronounced vocal harmonies, melodic guitars, and supple rhythms that remain close to contemporary pop. After a self-titled debut EP in 2016, the band sharpened its writing around voice-led songs and stripped-back arrangements, leading to the album format with “First Place” in 2019, where a balance between ballads and more uptempo tracks came into focus. The Brook & The Bluff continued along this path with “Yard Sale” in 2021, delving further into sonic textures and soulful nuances, then with “Bluebeard” in 2023, which extends this melodic, introspective approach. Active on the American live circuit, The Brook & The Bluff moves between clubs, midsize venues, and festivals, rooted in an accessible style that blends folk-informed songwriting, subtle groove, and a strong sense of the hook.
