Born in College Park, Georgia, Sergio Giavanni Kitchens—known professionally as Gunna—emerged in Atlanta’s rap scene in the mid‑2010s alongside Young Thug and the YSL Records collective. He honed a melodic trap style built on laid‑back flows, a strong feel for hypnotic, repetitive hooks, and slow‑burn atmospheres, prioritizing rhythm and vocal texture over technical showmanship. Following the Drip Season mixtape series beginning in 2016 and the collaborative project Drip Harder with Lil Baby in 2018, Gunna moved to full‑length albums with Drip or Drown 2 in 2019, followed by Wunna in 2020, which cemented his place in an atmospheric trap lane. DS4Ever in 2022 and A Gift & a Curse in 2023 extended that aesthetic, pairing introspective cuts with club‑oriented tracks.
