MPL
MPL, short for Ma Pauvre Lucette, is a collective founded in 2012 after the sudden death of Lucette, a mutual friend. They initially wanted to celebrate her memory through songs and videos that blend dark humor, intimate storytelling and an offbeat aesthetic. Around a distinctive universe where literary chanson intersects with hip‑hop rhythms, electro touches and an almost ceremonial staging, the five musicians have fashioned a singular project driven by choral energy and a deliberate taste for stories that unfold in music and images. Originally rooted in traditional French songcraft, they quickly broadened their palette toward pop and rap, asserting a more hybrid identity that has attracted a growing audience. From their debut EP LU7 and the album Ma Pauvre Lucette to L’Étoile (2020) and Bonhommes (2022), they have followed a coherent trajectory in which each record adds a piece to their mythology, recently extended by En Montgolfière (2024), an acoustic album that revisits their repertoire in a pared‑down form. Carried by a sensitive, off‑kilter and unifying tone, MPL today charts a singular path that is taking them to increasingly prominent stages.
