Alex Vargas

Born in 1988 in Hørsholm, north of Copenhagen, Alex Vargas has built a career between Denmark and the United Kingdom, where he moved as a teenager to focus on music. He first came to attention as a member of the London pop-soul band Vagabond, which released the album You Don’t Know the Half of It in 2009 before splitting in 2010. Vargas then launched a solo career that blends alternative pop, soul and electronic touches, with a vocal-centred approach and introspective songwriting. Signed to Copenhagen Records, he released the EP Howl in 2014, the mini-album Giving Up the Ghost in 2016, and the album Cohere in 2017, establishing a sound of dark ballads, restrained electronic rhythms and R&B influences. At the same time he has worked closely with the British trio Above & Beyond, writing and performing several tracks for them in the studio and on stage, situating him at the crossroads of pop, electronic music and the club scene. Regularly touring Denmark, the UK and Europe, Alex Vargas sits between singer-songwriter and vocalist for electronic projects, building over the years a concise, live-oriented discography.
