Toundra

Formed in Madrid in 2007, Toundra develops instrumental music that sits between post-rock and progressive metal, with long compositions, clear tension-building and a melodic use of guitars that remains central to its identity. The band arose around musicians from the Madrid-based alternative scene and stabilized its path through several lineup changes, notably with the arrival of drummer Álex Pérez in 2008 and guitarist David López in 2013. Toundra released its first album, Toundra, in 2008, followed by II in 2010, III in 2012, IV in 2015, Vortex in 2018, Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari in 2020 and Hex in 2022. Its evolution involves widening the format, from a tense and angular post-rock toward a more progressive writing, where group dynamics, rhythmic breaks and heavy textures take more space without abandoning the taste for atmospheric motifs. Toundra also led the side project Exquirla with the experimental flamenco singer El Niño de Elche, whose album Para Quienes Aún Viven appeared in 2017. Used to European tours and Spanish festivals, Toundra has established itself in a circuit linking instrumental rock, metal scenes and post-rock audiences, with an instrumental approach that rests on construction, intensity and collective relief.
