Tycho

Under the name Tycho, American producer and designer Scott Hansen has been developing since the early 2000s a project situated between ambient, downtempo and melodic electronica. Born in Sacramento and long based in San Francisco, Tycho emerged with the mini-album The Science of Patterns (2002) and then with Sunrise Projector, later reworked as Past Is Prologue (2006), where synthetic layers, enveloping textures and slow rhythms took shape. Signing with the Ghostly International label opened a new phase with Dive (2011), Awake (2014) and Epoch (2016), albums that established Tycho on international stages and marked the gradual shift from a mainly studio project to a live formation including drums, bass and guitar, giving his compositions a near post-rock dimension. Alongside his work as a graphic designer under the alias ISO50, Scott Hansen designs Tycho’s visual universe, characterised by a geometric, colourful aesthetic coherent with the music. With Weather (2019), featuring vocal collaboration with Hannah Cottrell aka Saint Sinner, and Simulcast (2020), a primarily instrumental version of the same material, Tycho continues to explore the crossover between airy electronics, chillwave influences and melodic songwriting, conceived both for intimate listening and for the stage.
