Too Many Zooz
Born in the corridors of the New York subway, the trio Too Many Zooz brings together baritone saxophonist Leo Pellegrino, trumpeter Matt Doe and percussionist David “King of Sludge” Parks around a sound often described as “brass house,” situated between brass‑band funk, hip‑hop groove and pulses close to electronic music. Spotted in the early 2010s through viral videos of their Union Square performances, they moved from busking to club stages and then to international tours. The group has developed a mainly instrumental repertoire built on repetitive brass riffs, bass lines played on saxophone and a strong focus on rhythm, an aesthetic that links them to certain forms of jazz as well as to dance culture. Their first full‑length album, Subway Gawdz, was released in 2016 and complemented by several EPs and self‑released digital tracks. They have also appeared as an invited brass section — notably with Beyoncé on the album Lemonade and during live shows — while maintaining a steady presence on venues and festivals across Europe and North America.
