Tonight Alive

Formed in Sydney, Australia, in the late 2000s, Tonight Alive was built around singer Jenna McDougall, guitarist Whakaio Taahi, bassist Cam Adler, guitarist Jake Hardy and drummer Matty Best within a local all-ages scene shaped by pop punk. After two self-released EPs in 2010, the band issued their debut album "What Are You So Scared Of?" in 2011, establishing Tonight Alive in a register combining melodic pop punk, punk rock energy and touches of post-hardcore. "The Other Side" (2013) tightened the songwriting around more structured choruses and a more introspective dimension. With "Limitless" in 2016, Tonight Alive moved toward a more open alternative rock sound, where the guitars were accompanied by more atmospheric textures. Meanwhile, Tonight Alive contributed the track "The Edge" to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack in 2014. "Underworld", released in 2018, returned to a more guitar-centered approach with a darker, more personal tone. Very active on tour, Tonight Alive quickly expanded beyond Australia, played itinerant tours such as the Warped Tour and shared bills with various pop-punk and alternative acts before announcing an extended hiatus in 2018.
