The Night Flight Orchestra

Founded in 2007 in Helsingborg, Sweden, The Night Flight Orchestra brings together musicians mainly from the Scandinavian metal scene around vocalist Björn Strid and guitarist David Andersson, including bassist Sharlee D’Angelo. Initially conceived as a classic-rock–oriented outlet, the band developed a melodic universe inspired by AOR, hard rock and 1970s–1980s pop, featuring catchy choruses, prominent keyboards and touches of disco or soft rock. The lineup, which also includes keyboardist Richard Larsson, drummer Jonas Källsbäck and backing vocalists The Airline Annas, progressively refined a retro aviation aesthetic that runs through record sleeves, videos and stage presentation. After a period of studio development, they released Internal Affairs in 2012 and Skyline Whispers in 2015, which established their signature between FM rock and more progressive sonorities. Signed to Nuclear Blast, the band followed with Amber Galactic in 2017 and Sometimes the World Ain’t Enough in 2018, before extending this blend of classic rock, discreet funk and synth-laden ballads on Aeromantic (2020) and Aeromantic II (2021). A regular presence on European rock and metal stages, The Night Flight Orchestra embraces the narrative and cinematic dimension of its music, crafted like the soundtrack to an imaginary airline.
