The Marcus King Band

Formed in 2013 in Greenville, South Carolina, The Marcus King Band is built around guitarist and singer Marcus King, a musician raised in a blues-oriented family who took the stage at a young age alongside his father Marvin King. The group has developed a sound rooted in blues rock and southern rock, combining song-based structures with extended instrumental passages and a regular presence of saxophone and keyboards. Around Marcus King, the band has included drummer Jack Ryan, bassist Stephen Campbell and guitarist Drew Smithers, with Chris Spies and Mike Runyon among the touring musicians. After Soul Insight in 2015 on Evil Teen Records, produced by Warren Haynes, The Marcus King Band followed with the self-titled album in 2016, the EP Due North in 2017 and Carolina Confessions in 2018, recorded in Nashville with Dave Cobb. In a few years, The Marcus King Band established itself on the American rock and blues scene with a lineup that places the guitar at the center, in a style marked by the musical traditions of the American South.
