The Psychedelic Furs

Formed in London in 1977 by the Butler brothers, Richard Butler and Tim Butler, The Psychedelic Furs initially rooted in the British post-punk scene before expanding their writing toward new wave, alternative rock and a dark, more melodic pop. The band developed a distinctive sound early on, blending taut guitars, nimble bass, keyboards, saxophone and Richard Butler's husky voice, with a balance between punk nerviness, cold romanticism and more open choruses. After their self-titled debut album in 1980, The Psychedelic Furs followed with Talk Talk Talk in 1981, Forever Now in 1982 and Mirror Moves in 1984, a period during which many of their best-known 1980s tracks took shape, including Pretty in Pink, Love My Way, The Ghost in You and Heaven. As lineup changes occurred, the band refined a more accessible approach without breaking with its origins. After World Outside in 1991, The Psychedelic Furs stepped back in the early 1990s, while Richard and Tim Butler launched Love Spit Love. Reformed from 2000, The Psychedelic Furs returned to the international stage with a renewed lineup and released Made of Rain in 2020, the band's first studio album in almost thirty years.
