Gary Numan

Born in London in 1958, Gary Numan emerged in the late 1970s on the British post‑punk scene with Tubeway Army, where a blend of minimalist rock and electronic keyboards was already taking shape. With Tubeway Army’s 1979 album "Replicas," followed by his solo records "The Pleasure Principle" (1979) and "Telekon" (1980), Numan helped drive the rise of synth‑pop, carried by tracks like "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars," which established his world of urban coldness, science fiction, and alienation. Throughout the 1980s, he explored various combinations of electronic pop and rock, before steering his work in a darker, more industrial direction from the 1990s onward with albums such as "Sacrifice" (1994). This approach—marked by denser sonorities and a focus on atmosphere—continued with "Pure" (2000), "Splinter (Songs from a Broken Mind)" (2013), and "Savage (Songs from a Broken World)" (2017), through to "Intruder" (2021), confirming the continuity of a career in which Numan remains associated with a strongly narrative, introspective electronic aesthetic.
