The Besnard Lakes

Based in Montreal since the early 2000s, The Besnard Lakes formed around Jace Lasek, originally from Saskatchewan, and Olga Goreas, from British Columbia, before taking the shape of a broader group over time. Their music crosses indie rock, psychedelic rock, space rock, shoegaze and dream pop, with a pronounced taste for dense textures, vocal harmonies and slow developments. After Volume 1 in 2003, The Besnard Lakes became more noticed with The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse in 2007, then The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night in 2010, two albums that establish a spacious, atmospheric sound and often feature guitar crescendos. The band then evolves with Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO in 2013 and A Coliseum Complex Museum in 2016, while preserving the relationship between melody, noise and cinematic breath. Alongside albums, The Besnard Lakes has also worked for the image, notably on Sympathy for Delicious and the documentary project Welcome to Pine Point. Their journey continues with The Besnard Lakes Are the Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warning in 2021, then The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation in 2025, in a continuity where dreamy psychedelia, rock tension and highly crafted arrangements mingle.
