Tahiti 80
Born in Rouen in the early 1990s around Xavier Boyer and Pedro Resende, Tahiti 80 developed an English-language pop that blends indie rock, melodies inherited from the 1960s, light soul, soft rock and electronic touches. After the first demos and the EP 20 Minutes in 1996, the group stabilized with Médéric Gontier and released Puzzle in 1999, a debut album recorded in New York with Andy Chase and mixed by Tore Johansson, which quickly opened stages in Europe, the United States and especially Japan. Tahiti 80 continued in this vein with Wallpaper for the Soul (2002), then evolved its songwriting toward more soulful arrangements and a more self-sufficient studio approach on Fosbury (2005), partly recorded in their own space in Rouen. The subsequent trajectory, marked by Activity Center (2008), The Past, the Present and the Possible (2011), Ballroom (2014), The Sunsh!ne Beat Vol.1 (2018), Here With You (2022) and Hello Hello (2024), shows a band committed to the pop song, vocal harmonies and flexible productions, without tying itself to a single format. Tahiti 80 now operates as a long-running band formation, led by Xavier Boyer, Médéric Gontier, Pedro Resende, Raphaël Léger and Hadrien Grange.
