Sean Rowe

American singer-songwriter Sean Rowe, born in 1975 in Troy, New York, develops a folk style tinged with Americana, featuring a deep, very present voice that carries songs focused on storytelling and the relationship to nature. Initially active on the local Albany scene, Rowe drew attention with his self-produced debut “27” in 2004 and later joined the label Anti- in the late 2000s. There he released “Magic” in 2009, which established a spare writing style built around acoustic guitars, restrained rhythmic playing and introspective lyrics, followed by “The Salesman and the Shark” in 2012 with a broader sound that incorporated keyboard, choir and string arrangements. With “Madman” (2014) and “New Lore” (2017), recorded in Memphis, Rowe deepened a vein between folk, slow rock and American soul, adding more piano and electric textures while keeping a generally moderate tempo and strong vocal intimacy. “The Darkness Dressed in Colored Lights” (2021) continues this work of narrative songs, where Rowe’s experience as a naturalist and wildlife enthusiast feeds the imagery and themes. In concert he performs both solo and with a tight band on folk and indie circuits in the United States and Europe.
