Sacred Reich
Formed in Phoenix, Arizona, Sacred Reich joined the second wave of American thrash metal in the mid-1980s around bassist/vocalist Phil Rind, guitarist Wiley Arnett and Jason Rainey. The debut album Ignorance, released in 1987 on Metal Blade Records, established a fast, cutting style marked by political and social lyrics, followed the next year by the EP Surf Nicaragua. With The American Way in 1990, Sacred Reich at times slowed the tempo, added more groove and developed a more articulated thrash focused on the political climate, inequality and environmental issues. The albums Independent (1993) and Heal (1996) amplified these shifts by incorporating heavier elements and a stronger mid‑tempo sensibility, while the band toured extensively across North America and Europe. Sacred Reich paused activity in 2000, reformed in 2006 to return to the stage, and later resumed intensive songwriting. The 2019 release Awakening reaffirmed the band’s thrash identity with a revamped lineup still led by Phil Rind, placing Sacred Reich back into a contemporary metal landscape where their socially engaged themes found new resonance.
