Skin

Born Deborah Anne Dyer in Brixton, south London, Skin established herself from the mid-1990s as the voice of Skunk Anansie, a British band situated between alternative rock, indie rock and alternative metal. In this frame, Skin develops a tense, expansive and upfront vocal style, carried by lyrics often direct and an aesthetic that blends rock energy, melodic tension and darker overtones. After the band's split in 2001, Skin launched a solo career with Fleshwounds in 2003 and then Fake Chemical State in 2006, two albums that move her writing toward a more personal register, without breaking with the emotional density and nervousness of her beginnings. Alongside her work as a vocalist, Skin has collaborated extensively, notably with Sevendust, Tony Iommi, Maxim and Nicole Moudaber, and has also developed DJing activity under a more electronic facet, oriented toward techno, tech house and minimal. Since Skunk Anansie reformed in 2009, Skin divides her time between the band's tours, her cross-disciplinary projects and a few forays into the media, from radio to television. Skin thus occupies a singular place on the British scene, at the crossroads of rock, electronics and vocal performance.
