Carmen Consoli

Born in Catania, Sicily, in 1974, Carmen Consoli developed her songwriting between Italian rock, singer-songwriter traditions and Mediterranean folk influences, with a strong focus on the Italian language and Sicilian turns of phrase. She was noticed in the mid-1990s on Catania’s club scene and later at the Sanremo Festival. Her first album, «Due parole», was released in 1996, followed by «Confusa e felice» (1997) and «Mediamente isterica» (1998), which established a style combining electric guitars, pop melodies and narrative lyrics centered on intimate relationships and portraits of women. The early 2000s saw a shift toward more open arrangements with «Stato di necessità» (2000) and «L’eccezione» (2002), before works in which traditional references and more acoustic rhythms became more prominent, such as «Eva contro Eva» (2006) and «Elettra» (2009). Alternating studio work with tours in full-band or stripped-down formats, Consoli has multiplied stage collaborations, contributed occasionally to film, and continued this trajectory with «L’abitudine di tornare» (2015) and «Volevo fare la rockstar» (2021), consolidating a distinctive place in the contemporary Italian singer-songwriter landscape.
