Marlene Kuntz
Formed at the end of the 1980s in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, Marlene Kuntz established itself on the Italian rock scene with Italian-language writing that blends electric tension, melody and a taste for sonic roughness. The group, built around Cristiano Godano and Riccardo Tesio, emerged in the early 1990s in the wake of alternative rock, with an aesthetic that crosses noise rock, indie rock, grunge and more experimental forms, without breaking with a dimension closely tied to song. The first album Catartica appeared in 1994, followed by Il vile in 1996 and Ho ucciso paranoia in 1999, three records often associated with the most abrasive phase of Marlene Kuntz. Over the 2000s, the sound opened to more varied arrangements on Che cosa vedi (2000), Senza peso (2003), Bianco sporco (2005) and Uno (2007), with occasional collaborations such as Skin or Paolo Conte. Marlene Kuntz also developed work for cinema, theatre and parallel projects, while remaining very present on stage, in clubs as in theatres. After Ricoveri virtuali e sexy solitudini (2010), Nella tua luce (2013) and Lunga attesa (2016), the group returned in 2022 with Karma Clima, a more atmospheric record focused on the climate crisis. The history of Marlene Kuntz was marked by the passing of Luca Bergia in 2023, co-founder and historic drummer.
