Reuben And The Dark

Founded in Calgary, Alberta, Reuben And The Dark centers on singer-songwriter Reuben Bullock, who was initially active as a solo artist before giving his songs a collective form in the early 2010s. The band develops a cross between indie folk, alternative rock and dark pop, with guitar-centered writing, sober arrangements and an atmosphere often traversed by themes of nature, loss and spirituality. After the solo albums Pulling Up Arrows (2010) and Man Made Lakes (2012), Reuben And The Dark signs with Arts & Crafts and releases Funeral Sky (2014), the first band album that establishes this blend of expansive folk and melodic tension. The lineup then embarks on Canadian and North American tours, later broadening its spectrum with Arms of a Dream (2018), where the approach becomes more open to dark pop and more direct choruses. In 2019 a release titled 'Love' appeared, prolonging this evolution in a clearer and more contemporary vein. Led by Reuben Bullock with a core of musicians including guitar, bass and drums, Reuben And The Dark sits within a Canadian scene where indie folk dialogues with rock textures and an introspective sensibility.
