Session Victim

Gathered around the German producers Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling, Session Victim formed at the end of the 2000s and has since established itself in Berlin in a vein that links house, disco, soul, broken beat, jazz‑funk and downtempo. The duo develops music built from samples, featuring supple rhythms, rounded basslines and careful attention to textures — between analog warmth, a muted groove and formats conceived as much for the club as for listening. Session Victim's early signposts came via a series of maxis on house and disco labels such as Retreat and Delusions of Grandeur, before a broader discography with The Haunted House of House (2013), See You When You Get There (2014), Listen to Your Heart (2017) and Needledrop (2020). Over the years Session Victim has evolved its approach without abandoning that point of balance between deep house, boogie, slower beats and funk heritage, alternating DJ sets and live performances across European electronic stages.
