Queen Omega

Active since the late 1990s, Queen Omega belongs to the tradition of Caribbean roots reggae while hailing from San Fernando in southern Trinidad and Tobago. Born Jeneile Osborne, she sang in church choirs and took part in calypso contests before turning to reggae and recording for British producers — a move that launched her first singles and put her on the international scene. Queen Omega’s discography centers on albums such as “Queen Omega” (2001), “Pure Love” (2003), “Destiny” (2005), “Away From Babylon” (2010) and “Freedom Legacy” (2023), tracing a path defined by roots-anchored reggae open to dancehall and soulful inflections. Her lyrics, informed by Rastafarianism, social observation and gender issues, are delivered by a supple voice that alternates melodic singing, more chanted interventions and passages close to singjay. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s she increased collaborations, notably with Jamaican singers from the conscious scene, and regularly performs at major European reggae festivals such as Rototom Sunsplash and Summerjam, while maintaining a pronounced connection to the Caribbean diaspora.
