Omnium Gatherum

Founded in 1996 in Kotka, Finland, Omnium Gatherum craft a melodic death metal sound infused with Nordic melancholy and progressive shades. Centered around guitarist and principal composer Markus Vanhala, the band released several demos before issuing their first full-length, Spirits and August Light (2003), followed by Years in Waste (2004), which established a songwriting approach combining riffs rooted in the Gothenburg scene, melodic guitar lines and atmospheric keyboards. The arrival of vocalist Jukka Pelkonen in 2006 solidified Omnium Gatherum’s vocal identity, and the group followed with Stuck Here on Snakes Way (2007) and The Redshift (2008), where longer structures and progressive elements became more pronounced. The albums New World Shadows (2011), Beyond (2013) and Grey Heavens (2016) deepened this blend of rhythmic aggression, low growls and more open passages, while The Burning Cold (2018) and Origin (2021) further emphasized contrasts between fast tempos, drifting atmospheres and prominently featured guitar melodies. Active on European, North American and Japanese stages, Omnium Gatherum frequently tour with other Finnish and Swedish melodic death metal acts, maintaining a discography focused on a dark, melodic and introspective approach to the genre.
