Puppetmastaz
A hip‑hop collective born in Berlin in the late 1990s, Puppetmastaz created a world where puppet creatures take center stage while the rappers and producers remain hidden. Rooted in Berlin’s alternative scene, Puppetmastaz gradually developed a hybrid project blending rap, electro influences and absurd humor, featuring processed voices, character dialogues and staging reminiscent of pocket theatre. After several maxi singles and tours in European clubs, the group released the 2003 album Creature Funk, which laid the foundations for a sound mixing hip‑hop beats, electronic textures and spoken‑sung choruses. Puppetmastaz followed with Creature Shock Radio in 2005 and The Takeover in 2008, continuing the narrative around its menagerie of imaginary MCs. Across The Break Up (2012), Revoluzion (2015) and Sweet Sugar Rush (2019), the band refined a denser, bass‑heavy style, sometimes bordering on electro‑rap and trap, while keeping a strong taste for vocal sketches and puppet choirs. Onstage, Puppetmastaz presents itself as a cast of characters manipulated in full view, alternating rap numbers, short scenes and audience interaction — a stage concept that remains at the heart of the project’s identity.
