Al'Tarba
Positioned between Toulouse’s hip-hop scene and darker strands of electronic music, Al'Tarba has developed since the mid-2000s a body of work focused on beatmaking and instrumental composition. Rooted in France but active within the international network of independent producers, he first made his mark with series of instrumentals and productions for various Francophone underground rappers, particularly around the Droogz Brigade collective. His universe blends instrumental hip-hop, gritty boom bap, trip-hop and industrial influences, with a marked taste for cinematic moods, horror-tinged hues and melancholic atmospheres. This aesthetic unfolds across several full-length albums, including “Lullabies for Insomniacs” (2007), “Food for Thought” (2012), “Let the Ghosts Sing” (2014) and “La Fin des Contes” (2017), where Al'Tarba alternates purely instrumental tracks with pieces conceived for guest MCs. Alongside his studio releases, he has multiplied collaborations with French and overseas rappers, worked on group projects and performs live with sets that extend this dark, narrative climate, gradually securing a distinctive place within the independent hip-hop and experimental electronic music scenes.
