Negramaro
Formed in 2000 in Copertino, in Apulia (Puglia), Negramaro brought together six musicians around Giuliano Sangiorgi and takes its name from the negroamaro, the emblematic grape variety of Salento. Initially noticed on the Italian alternative scene, Negramaro signed in the early 2000s with Sugar and built a repertoire situated between pop rock, alternative rock and Italian melodic songwriting, with arrangements that also incorporate electronic textures. After Negramaro (2003) and 000577 (2004), the group broadened its audience with Mentre tutto scorre (2005), boosted by a participation in the Festival di Sanremo, and confirmed this trajectory with La finestra (2007) and Casa 69 (2010). The subsequent discography includes La rivoluzione sta arrivando (2015), Amore che torni (2017), Contatto (2020) and Free Love (2024). Negramaro also developed a regular connection to cinema by composing for the films La febbre and Vallanzasca – Gli angeli del male, while Sangiorgi concurrently pursued several writing and vocal collaborations. Having played Italy’s major stages and festivals, Negramaro experienced a brief split in 2017 and then an interruption due to health problems of guitarist Emanuele Spedicato in 2018, before resuming activity and returning to Sanremo in 2024 with Ricominciamo tutto.
