Ligabue
Born in 1960 in Correggio, Emilia-Romagna, Luciano Ligabue emerged on the Italian rock scene around the turn of the 1990s after a background in local bands, odd jobs and work as a DJ. Discovered thanks to the band Orazero and later by Pierangelo Bertoli and producer Angelo Carrara, Ligabue recorded a self-titled debut album in 1990 characterized by straightforward guitar rock, structures close to American songwriting and lyrics rooted in provincial Italian life. Across records such as "Lambrusco coltelli rose & pop corn" (1991), "Buon compleanno Elvis" (1995), "Fuori come va?" (2002), "Mondovisione" (2013), "Made in Italy" (2016), "Start" (2019) and "Dedicato a noi" (2023), Ligabue evolved this blend of rock and melodic pop by incorporating ballads, brisker tempos and an often narrative writing style attentive to social tensions, emotional relationships and contemporary disenchantment. Alternating studio albums, live recordings and soundtracks — notably for his film "Radiofreccia" (1998) — Luciano Ligabue also developed a parallel career as a writer and film director that extends his musical universe. Present on Italy’s major stages since the 1990s, he remains identified with Italian-language rock at the crossroads of stadium rock and a more intimate register focused on ordinary characters.
