Melanie C
Born in Whiston in 1974 and raised in the Liverpool area, Melanie C, full name Melanie Jayne Chisholm, first rose to prominence in the mid-1990s as Sporty Spice in the pop group the Spice Girls before launching a solo career at the end of the decade. Her debut album Northern Star, released in 1999, established an identity between pop, rock and electronic touches, driven by notable collaborations such as those with Bryan Adams and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Melanie C followed with Reason (2003) and then founded her own label, Red Girl Records, on which Beautiful Intentions (2005) and This Time (2007) were released — marking a shift toward more direct pop rock and introspective ballads. The albums The Sea (2011) and Stages (2012) reflect both her interest in mature, soul-influenced pop and in musical theatre repertoire, while Version of Me (2016) and Melanie C (2020) emphasize electronic and dance-pop elements, often connected with club scenes and LGBTQ+ events. Alongside international tours, Melanie C sustains regular songwriting work, participates in musical theatre projects in England and continues to alternate studio productions with acoustic or live formats.
