Astrix

Under the name Astrix, Avi Shmailov has developed since the early 2000s a central presence in the Israeli and international psytrance scene. Born in Soviet Georgia and raised in Israel, Astrix first emerged in the full‑on current before broadening his approach toward a more progressive, psychedelic trance characterized by crisp rhythms, acid motifs and highly readable melodic constructions. His solo discography includes Eye to Eye (2002), Artcore (2004), Red Means Distortion (2010) and He.Art (2016) — four albums that trace Astrix’s evolution from dancefloor-oriented formats to more extended, atmospheric productions. Active both in DJ sets and the studio, he has collaborated with psytrance figures such as Ace Ventura and Avalon, and released on HOMmega as well as his own label Shamanic Tales. Present on club and festival circuits in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America, Astrix remains associated with a straightforward, melodic interpretation of psychedelic trance crafted for large live formats.
