Electric Universe
Launched in Hamburg in 1991 by Boris Blenn and Michael Dressler, Electric Universe established itself early on within the German psytrance scene. The project links the legacy of Goa trance to a more direct psychedelic trance, built on cosmic melodies, fast sequences and a sustained rhythmic tension. The first EP, Solar Energy, was released in the early 1990s on Spirit Zone and paved the way for One Love in 1995. After Michael Dressler left in 1997, Boris Blenn continued Electric Universe alone and developed a more assertive sound, documented on Stardiver (1997) and Blue Planet (1999), which features a collaboration with Roland Wedig — who also appeared on stage for some live formats. Electric Universe then circulated regularly at trance parties in Germany and later on the international psytrance scene. The discography grew with Divine Design (2000), Unify (2002), Cosmic Experience (2004), Silence in Action (2006), Burning and Sonic Ecstasy (2008), Higher Modes (2011), Journeys Into Outer Space (2014), Nebula (2015) and Sacred Geometry (2022). Across these releases, Electric Universe has maintained an aesthetic of melodic, energetic and spatial psytrance, at times interwoven with breakbeat elements and guitar lines.
