Nickodemus
Based in New York, Nickodemus was shaped by the late-1990s club scene, where he launched the Turntables on the Hudson parties before developing the Wonderwheel Recordings label. As a DJ and producer, Nickodemus builds a musical language that sits between house, broken beat, downtempo and hip-hop, threaded with Afro-Latin, Caribbean and Middle Eastern rhythms, and making frequent use of percussion, dub, funk and soul. His work moves between the dancefloor and attentive listening, in a fluid collage aesthetic that blends New York club cultures and global music without reducing them to a simple compilation of influences. After Endangered Species (2006), Nickodemus continued this direction on Sun People (2010), where electronic structures engage more with vocals and organic arrangements, and later on A Long Engagement (2018), an album that extends this collective, open approach. Over the years he has also developed a network of collaborations with singers, musicians and producers connected to Latino, Afro and electronic scenes, while remaining associated with a constant circulation between clubs, festivals and label projects.
