David Walters
Franco-Caribbean musician and singer David Walters has, since the early 2000s, developed work that sits between Creole cultures, chanson and electronic music. From a family originating in the Caribbean and based in Marseille, he first made his mark as a DJ and multi-instrumentalist in the club scene and in collective projects before releasing his first solo album, “Awa,” in 2006, where house, African influences and intimate songwriting intersect. With “Home” in 2011 he deepened this hybrid vein, blending supple electronic rhythms, acoustic guitars and vocals in French, English and Creole. Signed later to the Heavenly Sweetness label, Walters steered his work toward a more acoustic, intimate approach with “Soleil Kréyol” (2020) and “Nocturne” (2021), the latter recorded notably with Vincent Ségal, Ballaké Sissoko and Roger Raspail. His compositions alternate between stripped-down ballads and Afro-Caribbean grooves while maintaining a link to club culture. Alongside his records and tours, David Walters acts as a cultural connector, regularly travelling for audiovisual projects that explore local music scenes.
