The Quantic Soul Orchestra

Born in England around producer and multi-instrumentalist Will Holland, The Quantic Soul Orchestra takes shape in the early 2000s as a variable-geometry group project devoted to raw funk, fed by soul, jazz and Latin accents. This formation linked to the Quantic universe initially sits within the British indie scene, with musicians who change according to periods and recordings, among whom Lucy Holland, Russ Porter or Simon Little. The Quantic Soul Orchestra releases Stampede in 2003, then Pushin’ On in 2005, albums that establish a live-driven approach, marked by brass sections, tight grooves and a sound inspired by funk and soul productions of the 1960s and 1970s. In 2006, the group also records I’m Thankful with Spanky Wilson, before Tropidélico in 2007, created at the moment Will Holland settled in Colombia. This move broadens the project's palette without breaking its initial grounding, by more clearly integrating interchanges between funk, salsa, bossa and Afro-Latin grooves. The Quantic Soul Orchestra thus remains one of the collective formats through which Will Holland develops work focused on arranging, ensemble playing and a contemporary reading of soul and funk traditions recorded with an organic spirit.
