Beyries
Born in Montreal’s Outremont neighbourhood, Amélie Beyries performs under the name Beyries, creating songs that sit between folk, folk-pop and orchestral pop, carried by a gentle voice, piano and guitar. A French speaker, Beyries nonetheless chose English for most of her early releases while keeping room for French in her repertoire. Her musical path took shape after a period marked by illness, an experience that led her to write her own songs before working with producer Alex McMahon on a debut album. Beyries released Landing in 2017 and Encounter in 2020, where her songwriting grows in scope while remaining centred on spare, melodic arrangements. In 2024 she issued Du feu dans les lilas, which further confirms the place of French in her discography, followed by Reprises in 2025. Among the collaborations tied to her career, the duet “J’aurai cent ans” with Louis-Jean Cormier accompanied her beginnings and situates her within the current Québec scene, at the crossroads of intimate chanson, contemporary folk and an atmospheric pop that eschews heavy-handed effects.
