Nevermore
Formed in Seattle in 1991 in the wake of Sanctuary's breakup, Nevermore developed a writing style situated between heavy metal, thrash, power metal and progressive metal, with an increasing emphasis on darker structures and textures akin to groove metal and alternative metal. The historical core first brings together Warrel Dane on vocals, Jim Sheppard on bass, and Jeff Loomis on guitar, around a sound marked by taut riffs, frequent dynamic shifts, and an expressively toned voice. After the Utopia demos in 1992 and 1994's Demo in 1994, Nevermore released the albums Nevermore in 1995, The Politics of Ecstasy in 1996, Dreaming Neon Black in 1999, Dead Heart in a Dead World in 2000, Enemies of Reality in 2003, This Godless Endeavor in 2005 and The Obsidian Conspiracy in 2010. The band's trajectory also included several lineup changes, notably with the stints of Tim Calvert, Steve Smyth and Chris Broderick, while Nevermore established itself on North American and European metal stages, in clubs as in festivals. Put to sleep in 2011 after the departure of Jeff Loomis and Van Williams, the group was also marked by Warrel Dane's death in 2017. Nevermore relaunched its activity from 2024, then announced a new lineup in 2026 around Jeff Loomis and Van Williams.
