Mason Hill

Born in Glasgow and active since the mid-2010s, Mason Hill operates in a hard rock register nourished by alternative rock, alternative metal and post-grunge. The band formed around musicians from the local Scottish scene, with a lineup stabilized by James Bird, Marc Montgomery, Matthew Ward and Craig McFetridge, initially joined on vocals by Scott Taylor. Mason Hill released its self-titled debut EP in 2015, then developed a sound built on thick guitars, melodic choruses and direct songwriting, in a modern rock vein that retains a classical grounding. An acoustic EP, Unplugged, appeared in 2020 and showcased a more stripped-down approach to the repertoire before the release of the first album Against The Wall in 2021. This record, mixed by Chris Sheldon after recording in Glasgow, marked a broader visibility milestone for Mason Hill and accompanied a sustained presence on British stages. In 2022, the band also released Live in Glasgow. After Scott Taylor’s departure in 2023 for health reasons, Mason Hill entered a transitional phase before announcing the arrival of Thomas Ward on vocals. This evolution extends the trajectory of a group that has remained attached to a collective formula centered on live energy and a rock that is both melodic and muscular.
