Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons
Formed in 2016 in Pontypridd, Wales, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons emerged as a continuation of the post‑Motörhead period, centered on guitarist Phil Campbell and featuring his three sons Todd, Tyla and Dane, initially with singer Neil Starr. The band plays direct hard rock and heavy metal rooted in a rough British tradition, with prominent riffs, a strong rock’n’roll groove and compact, upfront songwriting. After a self‑titled EP in 2016, they released The Age of Absurdity (2018), We’re the Bastards (2020) and Kings of the Asylum (2023), plus the live album Live in the North the same year. On stage, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons quickly became established on the European hard rock and metal circuits, appearing at festivals and opening for Hawkwind, Saxon, Airbourne and Guns N’ Roses. The band’s history has also been marked by several changes of vocalist after Neil Starr’s departure in 2021, while retaining its family core and the heavy rock legacy it represents.
