Mura Masa
Under the name Mura Masa, Alex Crossan, born on Guernsey in the Channel Islands, has been developing an electronic sound since the mid-2010s that sits between house, UK garage, hip‑hop, alternative pop and bass music. His productions are supple and highly rhythmic, with vocals often taking a central role. Mura Masa first emerged online with his initial tracks in 2014, before quickly expanding into a producer‑songwriter role able to move between songcraft and the club. His debut album, Mura Masa, was released in 2017 and established a collaborative approach, featuring guests from pop and rap. In 2020, R.Y.C. steered his writing toward clearer indie‑pop and British guitar‑band references while retaining his focus on electronic rhythms. Demon Time, released in 2022, refocused Mura Masa on more direct, dancefloor‑oriented formats, between breaks, house and rap. On stage he alternates DJ sets and live performances, in contexts ranging from electronic festivals to pop bills, and his career is shaped as much by his own records as by collaborations with artists such as Shura, A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX, slowthai and Shygirl.
