La Bien Querida
Under the name La Bien Querida, Ana Fernández-Villaverde has carved out a singular path in Spanish pop since the late 2000s, balancing intimate songwriting, direct melodies and a pronounced taste for changes of style. Born in Bilbao and originally drawn to painting, she began composing in 2008, posted a first demo on MySpace and joined the Elefant Records label. La Bien Querida released Romancero in 2009 and Fiesta in 2011, two albums rooted in melodic, still very stripped-back indie pop, shaped by David Rodríguez’s production. With Ceremonia (2012) and Premeditación, nocturnidad y alevosía (2015), she emphasised a more electronic dimension, blending synth-pop, darker textures and touches borrowed from Spanish popular music. This evolution continued on Fuego (2017), Brujería (2019) and Paprika (2022), where chamber pop, minimalist choruses, an electronic pulse and flamenco inflections coexist. Over the years La Bien Querida has also intersected with the Iberian indie scene through collaborations with Los Planetas, Joan Miquel Oliver, La Estrella de David, Diego Ibáñez and Santiago Motorizado, while maintaining concise and highly recognisable songwriting.
