La Habitación Roja
Formed in the mid-1990s in the Valencia region of Spain, La Habitación Roja emerged as part of the indie rock wave developing around local alternative scenes. The group, centered on Jorge Martí, Pau Roca, Marc Greenwood and José Marco, operates as a quartet where melodic guitars, a tight rhythm section and Spanish-language vocals shape the sound. After several maxis for the independent label Grabaciones en el Mar, La Habitación Roja released a self-titled debut in 1998, followed by Largometraje (1999) and Radio (2001), which defined a sound influenced by 1990s British alternative rock. With 4 (2003), Nuevos tiempos (2005) and Cuando ya no quede nada (2007) the band emphasized pop arrangements and a more direct songwriting approach while retaining a taste for dense guitar textures. The period beginning with Universal (2009) and continuing with Fue eléctrico (2012), La moneda en el aire (2014), Sagrado corazón (2016) and Memoria (2018) saw the group consolidate a balance between energetic indie rock and slower, often introspective ballads. A regular presence on Spain’s main venues and festival circuits and frequently touring Latin America, La Habitación Roja relies on a steady discography to build a live repertoire that links Iberian pop culture with the legacy of Anglo-Saxon independent rock.
